EPA Names Wells Real Estate Funds and Columbia Property Trust 2013 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Wells Real Estate Funds (Wells) and Columbia Property Trust together as a 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for strategically managing and improving the energy efficiency of their combined building portfolios.

In an effort to further its green and sustainability practices, Wells Real Estate Funds has been recognized as having completed the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International’s 7-Point Challenge. BOMA recently concluded the five-year challenge which encouraged commercial real estate companies to reduce their use of natural resources, non-renewable energy sources and waste production.

Wells Real Estate Funds Achieves an Estimated $3.5 Million in Annual Energy Savings

Over the last 12 months, Wells Real Estate Funds estimates that its energy reduction efforts have resulted in nearly $3.5 million in savings on a portfolio-wide basis. This equates to $.13 per square foot in savings across 95 Wells properties benchmarked through ENERGY STAR®, as well as an 8.8 percent increase in overall energy efficiency.
